Located in the Highlands neighborhood, this naturally wooded green space is 2.6 acres. Informal footpaths lead you through this beautiful area with its abundance of indigenous shrubs, plants and trees.
The project is part of a larger collaboration known as the Green Kirkland Partnership (GKP). The GKP is a public private partnership between the City of Kirkland & the Cascade Land Conservancy. This partnership seeks to restore forested parkland in the City of Kirkland, create an informed, involved and active community of citizens, City staff, educators, business leaders, and conservationists, and ensure sustainability of our forested parklands through proper, long-term maintenance and community stewardship. Go to http://www.greenkirkland.org to learn more about the GKP.
Participants will take park in a huge community effort to restore our urban forests. Participants should expect to learn a brief history of Cotton Hill Park and an overview urban forests and information on Earth Day and the Green Kirkland Partnership. EarthCorps staff will discuss forest structure, native vs. non-native plant species, and environmental restoration.
